FAQs

What makes British White cattle a good fit for a working herd?

British Whites are calm, naturally polled, fertile, easy-calving, efficient, and known for strong mothering ability. They are cattle that can perform in the pasture or feedlot without needing to be pampered. They have been developed for rugged beef production—not just for the show ring.

Are British White cattle naturally hornless?

Yes. British White cattle are naturally polled, which means they are born without horns. There is no need to dehorn them, making them easier to manage and reducing unnecessary stress on both the cattle and the people working with them.

Are British Whites suitable for first-time cattle owners?

They can be a very good choice. British Whites are known for their gentle disposition, intelligence, strong instincts, and ability to adapt. That said, cattle are still livestock, and every buyer should be prepared with proper fencing, handling facilities, feed, water, and a working relationship with a veterinarian.

We are happy to talk through your goals and help determine whether British Whites are the right fit for your operation.

Do you sell registered cattle, commercial cattle, or both?

We raise and offer both registered and commercial British White cattle, including bulls, heifers, bred females, cow-calf pairs, and occasionally feeder cattle. Availability changes throughout the year, so the best way to find the right animal is to contact us and tell us what you are looking for.

Can I purchase cattle without visiting the farm?

We strongly prefer that buyers see the cattle in person before purchasing. We will not sell cattle sight-unseen without first speaking with you by phone or video chat.

Buying breeding stock is an investment. We want you to understand what you are buying, and we want to be sure the animal is a good fit for your herd and your goals.

Do your registered breeding animals come with a guarantee?

Ask us about our breeding guarantee on registered breeding stock. The details may depend on the animal and the terms of the sale, so we will review the guarantee with you before purchase.

Why do you often wait to breed your heifers until they are older?

British White heifers can cycle and breed at a young age, but that does not always mean they should. We often allow our heifers more time to grow and mature before breeding them.

Our goal is not simply to produce the earliest calf possible. Our goal is to develop females that stay productive, raise good calves, and last in the herd for many years.

How are your bulls developed?

Our bulls are developed on grass and bred to work under real-world conditions. We want bulls that can maintain themselves, travel, breed cows, and produce offspring that require fewer inputs.

We do not believe a breeding bull should need special treatment just to look impressive. He needs to go to work and contribute to the profitability of your herd.

How does purchasing and shipping semen work?

Semen must be paid in full before it is released. Shipping is the buyer’s responsibility and is currently handled through Hawkeye Breeders in Adel, Iowa. Once payment is complete, we will send the release information so you can arrange shipping directly with the storage and distribution facility.

Do I need a semen certificate to register a calf?

Yes. A semen certificate is required if you plan to register offspring produced from purchased semen. We provide a process for requesting the certificate, and we recommend handling that paperwork early so there are no surprises when it is time to register the calf.
